Product Overview
A Polarization Beam Splitter (PBS) and a Polarization Beam Combiner (PBC) are a pair of optical devices with reciprocal functions, used to separate or combine the two orthogonal polarization components (typically P‑polarization and S‑polarization) from unpolarized light. In simple terms, they act as a "polarization splitter/combiner."
Polarization Beam Splitter (PBS): Splits an incident beam containing arbitrary polarization states into two linearly polarized beams with mutually perpendicular polarization directions.
Polarization Beam Combiner (PBC): Combines two linearly polarized beams with mutually perpendicular polarization directions into a single beam.
Key Point: The functions of the two devices are completely reciprocal. A PBS used in reverse effectively becomes a PBC, and vice versa.
